I am a psychologist with over 30 years experience.  In 2007,  I decided
that I needed to become more active in my marketing efforts, as most
people either found me through their insurance panel or were assigned
to me through our group practice.

I constructed my first site through my DSL provider, where I had no
additional fees.   This gave me some experience in constructing a website.
However, it lacked the flexibility for what I wanted.   I then looked at different
hosting companies and decided that VodaHost.com had the most features
that I thought I wanted, as well as features that I might use in the future.   It
wasn't always intuitive and figuring out support was more difficult than it
should have been, but I finally got it to work.

Eventually, I decided to use several paid listing services, PsychologyToday.com (PT) and Find-a-Therapist.com (FAT).   It took me a little while to learn of the PT Forums.   After I began reading the Forums, I sought feedback.   I read a great deal and discovered that some of my questions had previously been addressed and were archived.   After I began making changes to my PT Profile and website, I began receiving inquiries and clients finding me through PT.

I've not knowingly received any referrals through FAT, although after months, it began to show toward the top of the first page in Google searches.   Through my own searches, as well as learning things through the PT Forums, I continually signed up on free listing sites.   As I did this, I received more referrals from people who found me "on the internet."   Sometimes these folks can tell me how they came upon me and sometimes they cannot or their spouse found me.

While I was doing the aforementioned activities, I also did a number of Google searches on therapist marketing and read a number of books that might be relevant.   I was surprised how little has been written.   I found nothing for therapists on how to begin to establish a presence on the interet.   Thus, the impetus for this ebook.   I am confident that therapists interested in establishing an internet presence will find this an extremely helpful beginning.

I extend best wishes to all.   As potential clients can learn more about us, they can make more informed decisions and there will be fewer poor fits, thus allowing an overall increase in effectiveness of our services.
